Join us on Tuesday, July 9 at 4pm for the Soapbox Nation youth speech showcase in the Newseum’s Documentary Theater. During this inspiring evening, 20 winners of this national competition will share their powerful speeches about an issue impacting their community.

The showcase is the culminating event of Soapbox Nation, an initiative that amplifies the voices of young people speaking out about issues facing their community, created in partnership between Mikva Challenge and Facebook Education. Through Soapbox Nation, youth find their voice on the issues that matter most to them and are given a platform to share their ideas and take action.

This year, using Mikva Challenge’s Soapbox curriculum, hundreds of educators around the country worked with their students to help them connect with issues they care about and develop their case for making a change. Students then participated in regional Soapbox competitions or submitted videos of their speeches for consideration, and winners were selected to showcase their passion and vision this evening at the Newseum.

On July 9th, these 20 winners will deliver original speeches addressing the most pressing issues in their schools and communities. The issues that youth focus on at this unique and powerful event include gun violence, mental health, the environment, and education, among other topics. It promises to be an inspiring evening.

There is no admission cost. Guests should enter through the Group Entrance door on C Street, and let the ticket office know that you are there to for the Soapbox Nation event in the Newseum’s Documentary Theater.
