Thank you for another successful – albeit unique – year!

The Mikva Challenge Action Civic Showcase, hosted annually in Chicago and Washington, DC, is a live event that bring together hundreds of young people to share ideas and solutions on critical issues affecting their lives. Supported by Chicago Public Schools and DC Public Schools as well as participation from charter and private schools, the showcase is packed with energy, hope and passion.

But like everything else in 2020, this year was different! Because of the stay-at-home orders, we had to transition from our in-person event to our very first Virtual Action Civics Showcase!

Though the format was new, the purpose of the showcase remained the same: to provide a space where youth voice is amplified and celebrated, and where young people could see the power of their own civic action, connect with other young leaders and advocate their ideas to a broader audience.

This year, COVID-19 and the move to online learning presented many challenges. Teachers and students faced incredible barriers to engagement and collaboration. Yet nonetheless, teachers were innovative in their approaches to engaging their students and students were able to develop their civic voices and become changemakers. It total, over 70 projects were submitted from across the country on topics that ranged from criminal justice to the environment to food security and violence just to name a few!

To our students: THANK YOU for continuing to be a source of inspiration and a great example of why these spaces are needed.

To our teachers: None of this would have been possible without you and we can’t say enough about how much we admire and appreciate you.

To our civic partners: Thank you for your involvement and support!
