CPS Students Take Action on Crucial Issues In their Community
350 teen problem-solvers from 67 schools gather to present solutions to Chicago’s toughest issues
CHICAGO, IL, May 13, 2015 – Police-youth relations are at an all-time low, youth violence continues to make headlines, and young people are dealing with inordinate amounts of stress. There has never been a better time to pay attention to youth-generated solutions to issues facing Chicago teens and neighborhoods. Over 350 young people from over 60 schools will present their solutions to the issues of teen violence, police-youth relations, student stress, nutrition, climate change and youth involvement in local politics- to name a few. They will exhibit their work at Mikva Challenge’s 13th Annual Action Civics Showcase to share their activism with peers and the greater Chicago community.
Here’s a glimpse into some of the projects and schools on display at the showcase and a storify of last year’s event.
WHEN: Tuesday May 19th from 4:00 to 6:00pm
WHERE: Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E Washington St, Chicago, IL, 60602
