Great judge. Great American. Great human being. I was an accidental Mikva clerk (my HLS classmate Barack Obama had to turn him down for my seat to be available). It was one of the luckiest things that ever happened to me. The year with Judge Mikva taught me powerful lessons about life and work that have infused everything since. I stayed in touch with Judge Mikva ever since — as so many of his law clerk family did — and he had away of giving tough advice and being a great booster at the same time. A mensch and a role model, a brilliant and brave person who did everything he could to leave our country and our world better than how he found it.T
